In the Area = Blair Castle

Blair Castle is situated in Blair Atholl, only a 10 minute drive from Pitlochry in the heart of Highland Perthshire. The Castle is the ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Blair Castle is currently the home of the Clan Murray family, who hold the title of Duke of Atholl, though the current Duke, John Murray lives in South Africa.

This stunning 13th century Castle has an extensive history which dates back over 700 years, and visitors can stroll through Blair Castle and view some of the exquisite artefacts, antiques, portraits and armours which have been found there over the years. Blair Castle also provides the garrison for the Atholl Highlanders, the private army of the Duke of Atholl and the only legal private army in Europe.

At Blair Castle you can also visit the Trekking Centre which is open from Easter to October each year, and whether you are an experienced rider, or a complete beginner you can take a trek into the hills and woods surrounding Blair Castle.   If you are visiting the area in August, you may get the opportunity to go the the Blair International Horse Trial and Country Fair, which is a massive event in the area attracting riders from all over the world,.

Within the grounds of the Castle you can also partake in Tractor Tours, Land Rover Safaris and exciting Attic Tours – and a stroll around the Gardens is also well advised, especially in the Spring and Summer months when the gardens are in full bloom.

After a day of touring and trekking around the castle and it's grounds, take the short drive back to Pitlochry where a warm welcome will await you at the Strathgarry Restaurant and enjoy a delicious dinner!
