Pitlochry
Pitlochry is in the Heart of the Highland Perthshire area of Perth and Kinross, Scotland, lying on the River Tummel.
It is largely a Victorian town, which was made famous due to Queen Victoria visiting the area in 1842, and the arrival of the railway in 1863.
Today’s town is a popular tourist resort and is particularly known as a centre for hill walking, cycling and fishing. The town itself is beautiful to walk around and has retained many stone-built Victorian buildings.
Other attractions in the town include a few whisky distilleries - including the smallest one in Scotland, Edradour, Heather Gems jewellery factory - where gorgeous jewellery items are made from compressed Scottish heather, the famous dam and fish ladder, and the wonderful Loch Faskally which you can either just sit and gaze at or take the nice walk around the banks.
Pitlochry lies 26 miles north of Perth and is bypassed by the A9 Inverness to Perth road, and has a railway station on the Highland Main Line.
